Summer 2017 In-Flight Skincare Routine

August 27, 2017

Between the sweltering summer heat in all my destinations (no Alaskan cruises this year) and the sweats I break every time I try to sneak more than a quart bag’s worth of makeup and skincare past a TSA agent, airport travel is more stressful than ever.

Ever since turning 20, I’ve noticed how fragile and dry my skin gets after any flight — and I really mean any flight. My skin is dryer than the Sahara, it’s duller than an episode of Frasier (kidding, mom), and it’s sadder than a young adult working two jobs at the mall instead of having summer fun with her hoodrat friends.

Oh, forget that last one. That’s me.

My last skincare review detailed how tr*sh my skincare routine was in June, and I’ve since stepped my game up. I’m diligent in washing my makeup off and doing most of my “10-step” routine every night, and even remembering to rinse my face in the morning before starting my makeup (you guys do all of that too, right?)

My in-flight skincare is a mini-version of the real deal I do every night. My flight bag contains more US products than Korean, and items I wish I had are missing, like an essence and a nice emulsion. I would like to do a full 10 steps inside of the airport and in the air, but I only operate with what comes to my mailbox; I don’t buy travel sized items too often since I get so many sample/deluxe things.

Summer is a busy time in the air for me, and I wanted to share my favorite routine that flew with me to Orlando, Washington DC, and New Jersey.

I’m also happy to introduce you to HIYHs new mascot! He is yet to be named, and I’ll be doing a naming contest to best decide what to call our new friend.

Without further ado…

My Summer 2017 In-Flight Skincare Routine!

1. I like to do my routine later into the flight, sometime after the flight attendants have brought by the pretzels and drinks. Opt into getting a cup of water or tea instead of a soda for an extra boost of hydration from within.

2. If you’re short on space and time, the one thing you should have on the plane is a good serum or cream moisturizer.

3.Take advantage of sample sizes and packets to make it all simple! You don’t even need one whole ounce of product to last you through all of your summer flights.

4. Be an unapologetic trendsetter; be ready to answer questions about what the h*ck you’re doing and why. Spread the gospel on why we should all be pampering our skin in the skies!

Y’all like how I balanced all of the stuff on top of my homework?

Like I said, I play the game with random samples I pick up here and there. Here’s a running list of what I kept around all summer.

  • Real Nature sheet masks in Lily and Lotus
  • Pūr~lisse sheet mask in Prevent
  • The Face Shop Chia Seed Moisture Recharge Cream
  • Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica
  • Lancôme Energie De Vie Water-Infused Moisturizing Cream
  • Tarte Maracuja Oil
  • Indie Lee’s Rosehip cleanser and CoQ-10 Toner
  • Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herb and Rosewater (decanted into my own spritz bottle)

I try not to go to the airport in makeup. Before I leave the house, I make sure my face is washed and moisturized as normal.

When I get into the sky and the time is right, I may take a wipe to my face before starting with a serum or sheet mask (if I’m feeling bold). Follow the same rules as on the ground and take the time to pat in the product on your face to make sure it’s fully absorbed! Wait a few minutes before moving on to a moisturizer. Some of the things I used in the sky this summer were Tarte’s Maracujah oil when I was feeling lazy, and the Shray Queen Bee sheet mask on my flight to Orlando.

Also featuring my favorite used Yogi tea bag! Gross! 😀

After the serum has settled, I’d gently massage my skin with a face cream, like Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica or Lancome’s Energie De Vie. I can’t express enough how much I love the Kiehl’s, by the way.

Above all else, I always keep a bottle of Mario Badescu Facial Spray with me no matter what. If I don’t find any time to do anything else, I’ll spritz my face throughout the flight and once I hit the ground. It’s amazing for my skin and hair, and leave a light refreshing scent to perk up my underarms too (since I tried natural deodorant this summer.. worst idea ever).

That’s pretty much it guys! I hope I was able to give great insight on how to achieve great skin in the sky.
